Traditional Braces
Traditional braces consist of individual brackets which are attached to each tooth. The brackets are accompanied by an archwire which constantly asserts gentle pressure on the teeth to shift them into their desired position. Metal braces are strong and tend not to stain teeth.
Ceramic Braces
Clear braces work the same way as traditional braces, but are made with a clear, synthetic material and “tooth-colored” ceramic. The ceramic brackets can be more comfortable than the traditional metal ones but are more susceptible to discoloration by coffee, wine, smoking, and certain foods.
Clear Aligners (Invisalign)
Invisalign consists of a set of clear aligners that gradually shift the position of the teeth according to a treatment plan. The aligners are practically invisible and are removable. Invisalign is a more comfortable treatment than traditional braces, but also tends to be more costly, and not all patients are candidates for it.
